Cardoso Racing wins in Supersport and takes another podium in Superbike

The Andalusian team holds the lead in the Spanish Supersport Championship with Borja Gómez

Cardoso Racing has started the races of the fifth round of the ESBK in top form. On this Saturday day, in which the qualifying sessions and the first races were held, the Andalusian team achieved a very important victory with Borja Gómez and a third place with Carmelo Morales. In addition, Filip Řeháček was ninth and improved his starting position.

If we start with the premier class, the Superbike, Carmelo Morales is showing good feelings with a weekend in which he is going from less to more. While his best time in FP1 was 1:40.097, he managed to go down to 1:39.418 in FP2 and today he set his best time of 1:39.175 in QP. This lap allowed him to be the fourth fastest in his category and, after the start of the race, he was soon in third position. Morales was very consistent lap by lap, something that allowed him to maintain this podium place until the chequered flag.

Carmelo Morales #31: "Personally I'm quite happy with the race as I'm not having my bestweekend. During the summer I had a back problem, I couldn't train and I arrived just in time for this race. I'm not having a good feeling on the bike and I'm finding it difficult to go fast and be consistent. In the race, despite not having a good feeling before the start, I tried to concentrate, to give one hundred percent and it was very hard physically. Thanks to the work of the whole team I was able to maintain a constant pace and I managed to finish the race in third position. I appreciate the team's confidence in me, we are already thinking about tomorrow's race, we will have another chance".

In the Supersport class, Borja Gómez arrived with a lot of confidence. Gómez started as leader of the overall standings in his category, but with a very tight field: he was only four points ahead of second-placed Dani Valle. With a best QP lap of 1:41.522, the fifth fastest in his category, Gómez started from seventh position on the grid, yet the Spaniard started the race in a very consistent manner, moving up to second place in just one lap. Borja kept a very competitive pace and was in the fight for the victory with his main rival, Valle, whom he overtook with seven laps to go to take first place. For Borja Gómez this is his fourth victory of the season, and he continues to lead the Spanish Supersport championship with 156 points.

Borja Gomez #12"I am very happy with today's results. I want to dedicate this race to Hugo Millán and all his family and, of course, to all my team for the work they have done and for the bike they have given me for the race. The qualifying session wasn't quite as we wanted it to be, we didn't know how to make the most of the tyres, but we managed to finish fifth in our category. In the race, we set our own pace, we did very well and we managed to finish first. We are already focused on tomorrow's race".

Filip Řeháček was the eleventh fastest Open600 driver in qualifying with a best time of 1:44.307. After starting from this position in the race, the Czech rider kept his cool and was consistent to move up a few positions and finish inside the top 10. In the end, Řeháček crossed the finish line in ninth position.

Filip Řeháček #3The qualifying session started well, we improved our time, but I mismanaged the second run and I couldn't run with any of the groups. I knew I needed references to improve my lap times, but I didn't get them and I lost a time that I think I could have dropped. In the race I didn't make a good start, I lost a couple of positions that made me drop back, but even so I kept fighting and, finally, I finished ninth in the Open600 class. I'm happy with the pace of the race, I improved compared to last week at the sixth round of the FIM CEV Repsol, but we still have room for improvement and I think we can do it".

Tomorrow the Superbike riders will race the second race at 13:00, and one hour earlier the second Supersport race will start.
