Cardoso Racing continues to close in on Supersport title with Borja Gómez

The Andalusian team leaves Navarre as the leader of the Spanish Supersport Championship and adds two important podiums in Superbike with Carmelo Morales.

The fifth round of the Spanish Superbike Championship has come to an end at the Navarra circuit with very positive results for Cardoso Racing. The team led by José Luis Cardoso continues in top form in the categories in which it participates in this contest with Borja Gómez, Carmelo Morales and Filip Řeháček.

At the end of the weekend Cardoso Racing maintains the lead in the Supersport category. Borja Gómez, who started with a four-point lead over the runner-up, finished this round with a thirteen-point advantage after yesterday's win and today's second place. Gómez completed a race with a very competitive pace, a pace that only Simon Jespersen was able to follow. The Spanish rider and the Danish rider played for the victory until the last corner, where Jespersen overtook the Cardoso Racing rider.

With these results, Borja Gómez has 176 points and accumulates four wins and six podiums this season.

Borja Gómez #12: "I am very happy with today, the race was very hard fought, I was first until the last corner and, at the end, we got a podium. This result is good because we continue to score points for the championship and the important thing is that we continue to lead. We are already thinking about the next race in Valencia, where we will give our all again to be at the front".

In the Superbike class Carmelo Morales continues to prove that he is one of the strongest riders in the category. After yesterday's third place, the team continued to work and, after trying new settings in the warm up, Morales made another step forward that allowed him to be closer to victory than on Saturday. From the start of the second race, the Catalan rider was one of the contenders to fight for the podium. As the laps went by, Carmelo settled into second position, although in the final stages of the race he lost this position and crossed the finish line in third.

Carmelo Morales #31: "Today we improved the feeling in the warm up, then in the race it was reflected and we got a better pace. The race was very hard on a physical level, in the last laps I gave everything to be second but, realistically, I made two mistakes due to physical exhaustion and I missed out on second place. I'm happy with the pace I did and to get back on the podium, after all summer, is something to be satisfied with. I want to thank the whole team, Yamaha and Michelin for their work.
For his part, Filip Řeháček in Open600 has also taken a step forward and continues to improve his feeling. The Czech rider improved his times from yesterday's first race and also improved his finishing position: Řeháček finished seventh and is showing clear signs of improvement race after race after the injury he suffered at the previous ESBK round in Barcelona.
Filip Řeháček #3: "Today I am happy with the start and the first three laps, we were fighting and I didn't lose any positions. The second half of the race was difficult because I was behind a group of riders and I couldn't pass them. We finished the weekend in seventh position, it was a bit complicated, but we keep improving since the injury. Now we have a month and a half of rest until Valencia, so we have to recover physically and train to be fighting for the top positions".
The next ESBK round will take place on the weekend of 23rd and 24th October. It will be held at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia.
