Borja Gómez scores his seventh podium of the year with Cardoso Racing

The Spanish rider finished second in the first race of the weekend at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit.

The first race day of the weekend in Valencia ended on a bittersweet note for Cardoso Racing. While in Supersport the team has once again achieved good results, in the Superbike class Carmelo Morales suffered a heavy crash on the first lap of the qualifying session.

This heavy blow has caused several injuries and the Catalan rider has not been able to take part in today's race and will not be present in tomorrow's race on Sunday. Carmelo Morales suffers a fractured right collarbone and a broken left wrist.

The positive part of the day for the team came in Supersport. Borja Gómez continues to be in great form. Throughout the weekend the rider from Murcia has been among the top positions, as usual, and even led the free practice with very difficult track conditions due to the unstable weather on Friday. With this good feeling, Borja went into Saturday ready to do well, and so it was.

In qualifying the Cardoso Racing driver set his fastest lap time of 1:36.382, a time that made him second fastest in his category. In the first race, after a good start, Gómez stayed in the podium places with a very consistent pace. As the laps went by, he maintained his position and finished second, a very positive result for him in the fight for the title: Borja Gómez remains leader with 196 points.

In the Open600 category, Filip Řeháček has gone from strength to strength since the first free practice sessions. The Czech rider managed to improve his times in each session and in QP he set his best time of 1:39.492, a lap that allowed him to start from fifteenth position in his category.

In the race, Řeháček managed to set a competitive pace that allowed him to climb positions from his starting position: he finished twelfth and scored points again.

Borja Gómez #12: "We are happy with the work we have done today. Overall, it's been a pretty good weekend, we are following our usual line and we have things clear. We managed to get into a group of three riders and we were able to finish in second position. I want to dedicate this race to Carmelo Morales, he crashed in qualifying and we hope to see him back on track soon".

Filip Řeháček #3: "In the first laps I had a hard time overtaking and I was a bit behind the group. It was a long and hard race. For tomorrow we have to manage the first laps better to be able to stay with the front group and get a better result".

Tomorrow the team will race the second Supersport and Open600 races at 14:00. On behalf of the whole Cardoso Racing team we wish Morales a speedy recovery from the injuries suffered today.
