Cardoso Racing to play for the Supersport championship on home soil
Borja Gómez is the leader with 216 points and leads the runner-up by 31 points, so he could be proclaimed Spanish champion in the first race on Saturday.
The last round of the Spanish Superbike Championship has started at the Jerez - Ángel Nieto circuit, the home circuit for Cardoso Racing. This weekend could be very special for the whole team, as Borja Gómez has a chance to win the Spanish Supersport Championship title.
The rider from Murcia has completed a very consistent season, in which he has been competitive since the first round, also held at this Andalusian track. Gómez has a total of 216 points and in twelve races he has achieved four victories, three second places and one third position, excellent results that take him to these last races with a 31-point advantage over the second placed rider.
In addition to Borja's good sensations, in Open600 Filip Řeháček is in top form. The Czech rider is getting closer and closer to the front, progressing in each session and scoring points in four races in a row, so the expectations of Cardoso Racing with its two riders are high.
The negative part of this weekend for the team is the absence of Carmelo Morales. After his crash in Valencia, the Catalan rider is still recovering from injuries, so the season has ended prematurely for him.
Borja Gómez #12: "We have a lot of confidence in ourselves. We are coming to Jerez with the desire to do things well and we are going to follow the same line of work as always, this has to be a weekend like the others, even though we are playing for the title. After the first contact I felt very good with the bike, so we hope to continue like this".
Filip Řeháček #3: "I'm very excited andlooking forward to it. In the first free practice we started very well, with calmness. We were comfortable and had no problems, so I hope we can continue in that vein. We have to see what the weather will be like over the weekend, it looks like it will rain a lot, so that could be a determining factor".
José Luis Cardoso (Team Manager): "First of all, I must say that we are very sorry that Carmelo Morales will not be able to ride in this last ESBK round due to the injuries he sustained in the crash in Valencia. We will miss him this weekend, but we wish him a speedy recovery and send him our best wishes. On the positive side, we are very well placed in the Supersport class with Borja Gomez. We have a chance of winning the title this weekend, we will be able to corroborate and demonstrate the great season he has had. On the other hand, with Filip we come to this race with a lot of accumulated kilometres, with a lot of experience in this category which was new for him, so let's see if we can achieve our goal, which is to finish on the podium, and we will work very hard to achieve it. Also, it looks like the weather could be tricky, it looks like it's going to rain. Although the conditions are the same for everyone, it can condition the outcome of the races, but, even if the conditions are like this, we have a chance to be at the front because Michelin helps us a lot to have a good product in these conditions. Whatever happens, we want to be competitive and meet our targets".
This weekend will follow the usual schedule for this championship. After free practice on Thursday and Friday, qualifying and the first races will be held on Saturday, followed by the second races on Sunday.
